Job Summary
Perform
a complete range of welding services in support of MRAP (Mine Resistant
Ambush Protected) vehicle modification and as needed to support other
sections. Perform other duties as deemed necessary by supervisory
personnel. Perform quality work as part of ISO 9001 Program, DOD
directives, Performance
Work Statement (PWS), DynCorp Work Instructions (WI’s), and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s).
Principal Accountabilities
Perform repairs on ferrous and non-ferrous metal associated with vehicles and equipment.
Construct metal working projects according to specifications and drawings as supplied by the customer.
Layout, design and build metal working projects as directed by supervisors.
Operate
metal working machines to include but not limited to metal cutting
machines, press brakes, drill press, and trade associated hand tools.
Prepares and inspects vehicles and equipment for shipment by air/sea/surface transportation.
Comply with US Air Force/DynCorp safety and quality standards.
Handle
the storage, use and disposal of Hazardous Materials within the
assigned work center in compliance with directives and regulations.
Operate material handling equipment as required.
Ensures
all tools, personal protective equipment (PPE) and clothing issued
remain safe, secure and serviceable, reporting any deficiencies to your
immediate supervisor.
Perform TDY in the Area of Operations as required by the US Air Force/DynCorp tasking.
Must
comply with Military Document Ground Combat Vehicle Welding Code-Steel
Drawing # 12479550, and American Welding Society (AWS) D1.1.
Work effectively with differing customers and cultures.
Maintain a safe work environment and ensure compliance with safety objectives and policies.
Must be able to function with minimal supervision.
Troubleshoot technical problems and issues and determine technical solutions.
Act as local on-site representative to customer’s organization.
Performs other duties as assigned by the MRAP Vehicle Maintenance Superintendent.
Knowledge & Skills
Ability to understand and operate plasma, and acetylene cutting equipment.
Understand technical data, plans/blueprints and publications pertaining to but not limited to USAF vehicles, and equipment.
Must have, or be able to obtain confined space permit.
Must have knowledge of database software, spreadsheet software, presentation software, and word processing software.
Certified
to the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standards for the
appropriate metals in the manufacture of the vehicles.
Proficient to perform all welding operations including armor patching, cutting, attaching weldments, and heating/bending metal.
Use
(but not limited to) oxygen/acetylene torches, stick welders, wire
welders including MIG/TIG and flux-core wire using noble-gas shields.
All welds and metal work shall meet or exceed Navistar Defense/industry standards.
Shall be certified to AWS D1.1 and must present qualifications as part of the employment screening.
Experience & Education
High School Diploma or equivalent, Technical School training, and American Welding Society (AWS) certification.
Five
years’ experience as a certified welder, with experience in MIG (metal
inert gas), TIG (tungsten inert gas), ARC (electrical arc welding) and
Gas welding operations.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
Ability to obtain a US Passport.
Physical Requirements/Working Environment.
Must be able to work outdoors for extended period.
Must be able to work in maintenance shop environment.
Physically able to perform the assigned duties.
Must be willing and able to work in extreme temperatures.
Capability to lift 55lbs without assistance.
Must
be able to meet medical and physical fitness requirements to enter into
and maintain deployment in accordance with customer requirements.
Live
and work in an austere environment in an active combat zone most likely
under U.S. Govt control on a U.S. Military secured compound.
Travel
Relocate to different locations within Afghanistan on short notice to support assignment.
