Job Summary:
Responsible
for protecting lives and property from fire. Perform rescue and
firefighting operations to include fires, vehicle accidents and natural
disasters. Controls and extinguishes fires. May drive vehicle to scene
of fire following predetermined route, or selected alternate route when
necessary. Reports directly to the Crew Chief.
Principal Accountabilities:
Responsible for protecting lives and property from fire. Perform rescue
and firefighting operations to include fires, vehicle accidents and
natural disasters Responds to fire alarms and performs search, rescue
and fire suppression operations to combat fires
Operates
hand and power tools to ventilate structures; positions and climbs
ladders; pulls hoses from truck bed and connects to hydrant and pump
apparatus; operates water charged hose lines of various sizes to combat
fires
Performs salvage and overhaul operations to minimize damage.
Safely and efficiently operates emergency response vehicles
Conducts pre-fire planning of commercial buildings, hospitals, schools and other buildings
Performs maintenance on department equipment, grounds, furnishings or structures
Participates in station drills, allied emergency procedures and actions refresher training
Performs other related duties as required
Operates pumps, foam generators, boom and ground sweep nozzles, and other similar equipment
Drives vehicle to scene of fire following predetermined route or alternate route when necessary
Minimize distress and suffering, including giving first aid before paramedic crew arrives
Performs daily preventive maintenance such as draining and flushing
tanks, and otherwise, ensuring that all equipment is in usable condition
Knowledge & Skills:
Ability to make sound decisions quickly under stressful conditions.
Ability to lift and carry weights up to 90 pounds.
Ability to perform duties under hazardous conditions requiring considerable physical exertion.
Ability to communicate effectively orally, non-verbally, and in writing.
Ability to work effectively with others.
Ability and willingness to work rotating shifts to include nights, weekends and holidays.
Ability and willingness to work under adverse weather conditions and high noise levels.
Ability to use a computer and related software. Physical Requirements:
Living
and working conditions at the assignment location could be remote and
uncomfortable. Long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous
conditions. Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and
under adverse conditions.
Experience:
Typically, at least three (3) years experience in the fire fighting field with five (5) years preferred. Candidates must have a valid driver�s license.
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent required, Prefer Associates Degree.
The minimum level of International Fire Service Accreditation Congress
(IFSAC) or ProBoard certifications required for the position are: Fire Fighter II Hazardous Materials Operations Airport Firefighter (not required for fire departments without an aircraft fire fighting mission) Equal Opportunity Employer - EOE/M/F/V/D
