Telecommunications Field Engineer - Iraq

Job Description: Position requires deployment to Baghdad, Iraq as part of a two person team to install, test and training users on the Lawful Intercept system. The candidate will be responsible for ensuring the Lawful Intercept system is installed and configured properly with specific emphasis on the mediation system and back-end voice and data flows. After installation, the candidate will have responsibility for ensuring the Lawful Intercept system remains operational. This person will be on-call 24-7 to address system outages. This person will also assist the other team member in developing and implementing a training plan to ensure that Iraqi operators know how to use the system. Help the Iraqi engineers who will maintain the system and encourage them to develop a customer service focus. Duty schedule will be 6 days per week / twelve hours a day. Deployment period will be 1 year - 4.5 months plus a possible extension. Required Skills:
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • At least 5 years telecommunications experience and prior experience working with Lawful Intercept Systems.
  • At least two years Windows desktop and server administration experience.
  • Two years Sybase Database Administration experience including backup and recovery.
  • Experience working with Lawful Intercept systems.
  • Experience with network management using Cisco IOS to manage Cisco switches in a Fast Ethernet and/or Gigabit Ethernet environment.
  • Proven ability to work alone and in small teams to solve integration and maintenance problems in environments with little or no external tech support available.
  • Ability to work with new cultures and social environments.
Desired Skills:
  • Arabic oral and written skills highly desired.
  • Telecommunications experience in an environment using E1 and/or E3 circuits.
  • Experience conducting training on a production system.
  • Experience developing junior engineers in the process of methodical solving system problems and documenting the symptoms, solutions and lessons learned.
  • Experience developing and presenting training materials desirable.
  • Prior deployment experience to the Middle East desired.
  • Demonstrated ability to work long hours for an extended period.
  • Experience managing Cisco PIX / ASA firewalls.
