Translator - Afghanistan


The Interpreter performs routine duties in an office environment, assist in conducting interviews, and screening potential LEP (Locally Employed Personnel) applicants, processing security and access permissions for US military installations. Provide linguistic operational support during reception, interviews, meetings and conferences. Interpret and translate written and spoken communications. Transcribe and analyze verbal and written communications. Analyze foreign documents for authenticity and provide input to reports. Informs the interviewer of LEP�s body language or any cultural traits that may impact the interview.

Principal Accountabilities:

Job duties
  • Provide linguist support to the badge and screening office
  • Serve as the receptionist for personnel entering the office
  • Perform general administrative support
  • Be present during interviews and serve as translator
  • Verify foreign documents for authenticity
  • Translate both written and spoken word.
  • Interview and screen potential applicants and visitors
  • Perform word processes and other clerical functions
  • Submits reports
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge & Skills:
  • Must possess solid working proficiency in Microsoft Office tools; advanced proficiency in MS Word and MS Excel.
  • Solid working proficiency in Intelligence Community transliteration system for respective language is highly desired.
  • Must be able to translate both general and highly-technical materials.
  • Communicate effectively and readily share knowledge with others
  • Required to work 12-hour shifts and in excess of 60-hour weeks in order to provide continuous contract linguist support that this 24 x 7 operation requires.
  • Must hold a current U.S. passport. (or apply as soon as accepted into the program). Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
  • A thorough knowledge of cultural, economic, geopolitical, and military issues of the Mid East and Arab speaking countries within that region.
  • An ability to operate standard and specialized office automation equipment to process foreign language material.
  • All applicants will undergo background investigation, oral and written skills language examination and medical examination as conditions of employment on this contract.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen qualify

Physical Requirements:
  1. Living and working conditions at assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable
  2. Long hours, exposure to weather, and hazardous conditions
  3. Position may require moving on short notice and under adverse conditions

Experience:
  • Must have the ability to Interpret and translate written and spoken communications in Pashtu, Farsi, and Dari.
  • Two (2) years working in a government environment.

Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
